It’s almost the New Year and I’m so excited. New Years is my favorite holiday of the year. We always stay home with the kids, eat junk, play games and watch movies, and as we watch the ball drop in NY or ATL we prepare for our Silly String war. As the countdown begins, we rush outside (silly string inside can never be fully cleaned up) and at midnight we attack each other with our cans full of Silly String. My husband always declares himself the winner so we all usually gang up on him!
We aren’t really big on traditions, as it was too difficult to set many in place since the children were back and forth between us and their father every other year. But, somehow they were almost always home with us for New Years so we were able to almost always enjoy that Holiday together and create some New Years traditions. Another nice thing about New Years is there really isn’t any pressure. You don’t have to go shopping, buy gifts, spend major bucks, or really even prepare (other than stocking up on the silly string). You just get to show up on the day and ENJOY!
Another great thing about New Years is it is an opportunity for a fresh start. It is a chance to make plans, set some goals, change your attitude, change your life…or whatever you want to do. It sometimes feels like wiping the slate clean. Whatever bad things happened in the current year, New Years is a day to plan to do things different if you want to. Each day is an opportunity for a fresh start, but for some reason New Years is a more inspiring time to make changes. My friend Betsy has a GREAT post about how to prepare for the New Year… www.CrossFit Chick.com.
So while I am off work next week, I plan to take some time to sit down and map out my New Year. It will start off with moving into a new home! We are expecting to close on December 29th, which is perfect timing for making that fresh start…a fresh start in a new house!
Here’s to everyone having a wonderful Christmas, a Happy New Year, and changing your life in 2012!!
