Today I went to the gym wanting to do a really tough WOD called Hugo. But, when I got there my training partner ended up not being able to come workout, and then I realized that with Sunday’s competition coming … Continue reading
I am now at the end of about 8 weeks of being really strict with my nutrition. I spent the first week just going very low calorie and cutting out sugar. I still had some bread and other not-so-good-for-you foods … Continue reading
Today we hosted our first Affiliate League competition. The mixed (scaled) teams competed first and did great. Then it was time for the Elite teams to compete. I’m on our Elite team. The funny thing is, I don’t FEEL Elite. … Continue reading
So I did a BodyRock.tv workout today. I’ve tried some of their moves before, but not an entire workout. She isn’t a Crossfitter, but she has an amazing body and is obvioulsy strong and fit. She does unique movements that … Continue reading
So I am now on week 4 of locking down on my diet. I’ve dropped 10 pounds, am down just under 20% bodyfat, and am feeling pretty good. I’ve got another week and a half of this low calorie deal, … Continue reading
Its been awhile since I’ve blogged my own personal progress. I went through a period of feeling just plain “off”…unmotivated, tired, blah, sad, and more negative things. I’m not sure what the real issue was, but believe it to be … Continue reading
For the last several weeks I’ve been in a rut, feeling de-motivated, run down, tired and just plain burned out. I’ve had more disappointing workouts than good ones, and struggled to want to do much of anything in the gym.
I took a week off, travelled back home to Michigan to see my family and had some fun. I didn’t stress out over anything and just went with the flow, doing whatever we all felt like doing. I worked out the first two days but not after that. It crossed my mind a few times that I should work out, but we were busy every day.
I got back last thursday and didn’t work out until Sunday because we were so busy, and then the workouts on Sunday were AWFUL!!! I felt so drained and horrible. Monday continued to be more of the same – more disappointments because I tried to get new PRs in a couple of lifts and hadn’t improved any in two months!!
Today I did a WOD of 3 rounds of 50 double unders and 10 handstand push ups. Before the workout I attempted some hspu without the abmat and failed. But, Chris helped explain to me how to Kip with the hspu and on the 2nd or 3rd try I got it. EXCITING!!! For the first time in weeks (maybe months) I did something I’ve wanted to do for a really long time – handstand push ups from the floor (no mats, no plates or any assistance)!!!
Maybe this little bit of success will carry me through and help get me motivated once again!!
Every few months Jill and I like to do the 300 WOD to see if we’ve improved. I don’t check my previous WOD times before I do it. I used to but it stressed me out too much so I stopped.
Today Jill and I were both feeling unsure of how we would do because we were feeling our tough Friday WOD still – sore calves and such. But we warmed up well and began.
I knew that when Gerard Butler did the 300 WOD at the end if his training for the 300 movie his time was something like 18 minutes so that was the goal I had in the back of my mind.
I was excited when I finished the first 25 pull ups in 55 seconds! I hated seeing I had already ripped open my blister from Friday but I kept going! 50 95# deadlifts, 50 push ups, 50 box jumps, 50 floor wipers holding up 95#, 50 kettlebell clean and presses with 25#.
Jill started encouraging me early on seeing that I was moving seemingly fast through everything. I felt like I was moving kinda of slow. When I finished the clock read 17:28! I checked my book for my last time, which was in January and was over 3 minutes slower! I was floored! 3 minutes!!!!
I ran through the workout in my head trying to see if I missed an exercise or miscounted. But I hadn’t. I’ve been over it several times and was diligent about counting and definitely did everything!
I’m not sure if the strength and other workouts I’ve been doing are the reason for this huge PR but it seems that it must be and that the things I’ve been doing the last couple of months ARE working because a 3 minute plus PR is big!
Progress when you least expect it is an awesome thing!!
I began this new plan, that I designed with input from many different sources, and today will be my Carb up day. As I was thinking about this yesterday I thought “tomorrow is my cheat day”. But then I realized … Continue reading
